The present invention relates to a vanadium polysaccharide complex formed by complexing seaweed polysaccharide and vanadium and a preparation method. The preparation method for forming the complex with acid polysaccharide comprises the following steps : dissolving the acid seaweed polysaccharide or derivatives thereof into deionized water, adding VOSO4 solution into the solution, stirring the solution for reaction, adding ethanol to settle the reaction product after the reaction is finished, filtering the solution, and washing, drying and crushing the reaction product to obtain the vanadium polysaccharide complex. The preparation method for forming the complex with neutral polysaccharide or derivatives thereof comprises the following steps : dissolving the seaweed polysaccharide into the deionized water, adjusting the pH value of the solution to more than 7, keeping the pH value of reaction solution more than 7, settling the reaction product and filtering the solution, and drying and crushing a filter cake to obtain the vanadium polysaccharide complex. The complex and the preparation method have the advantages that : firstly, the seaweed polysaccharide self has multiple pharmacological actions; secondly, the complex fully exerts the physiological activities of trace elements and polysaccharide, and mutually coordinates and enhances the actions of the trace elements and the polysaccharide; and thirdly, the inorganic vanadium is converted into polysaccharide organic vanadium so as to greatly reduce the toxicity of the vanadium and improve the bioavailability of the vanadium.
